Posted by Ameriden International on 20th Jul 2017

Would you like to improve your health and increase your overall feeling of well-being? It’s often been said that you are what you eat, and this could be true to a certain extent. A healthy, balanced diet provides you with more energy and helps keep illness at bay. In a society laden with processed fast foods and junk food, we could all benefit from consuming healthier food. Some people view food as medicine, and today we would like to discuss different superfoods to add into your diet.

Berries

No doubt about it, berries are some of the most delicious fruits available. Who doesn’t enjoy fresh, juicy strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries? Not only are these fruits absolutely tasty, they are packed with vitamins, fibers, and phytochemicals, which are plant compounds. The high concentration of antioxidants in berries combined with their wonderful sweetness makes these superfoods truly magical.

Raw Nuts

Loaded with protein, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, magnesium, calcium, and fiber, raw nuts are a great addition to your diet. Although meat is rich in protein, people in our country often consume excessive amounts of meat, which can contribute to heart disease. Try replacing some of the meat in your diet with raw nuts such as walnuts, almonds, or cashews. In fact, the Harvard School of Public Health discovered that replacing red and processed meats with nuts and other healthy proteins could reduce your risk of heart disease by almost 35 percent.

Broccoli

One of the healthiest vegetables you can eat is broccoli. This cruciferous veggie is rich in vitamins A and C and folic acid. Broccoli and other cruciferous veggies contain sulforaphane, which is a cancer-fighting agent excellent for your health.

Spinach

All leafy green veggies are incredibly good for your body, including spinach. You don’t have to be Popeye to experience its benefits. Loaded with fiber, folate, iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin E, A, C, and K, spinach is incredibly nutrient-rich. Folate is a water-soluble B vitamin essential for maintaining healthy cells. This mild veggie can easily be added to a smoothie, and it won’t even taste like spinach.

Quinoa

Over the past few years, the health content of grains has been debated. Quinoa is a gluten-free seed found in South America that contains high amounts of protein yet is easy to digest. In comparison to a bowl of rice, a bowl of quinoa contains the same amount of protein without spiking your blood sugar.

Salmon

This type of fish is packed with vitamin B and omega-3 fatty acids, which are very beneficial to your overall health. The reason that omega-3 fatty acids are so valuable is that they aid in slowing the growth of plaque in your body, which contributes to heart disease. The University of California at Los Angeles even discovered a link between the fatty acids in Salmon in preventing Alzheimer’s disease.
