Women's Health Supplement and Social Media Addiction

27th Apr 2018

Is social media dangerous? There is a saying that guns don’t kill people, social media does.

The message from health professionals is that if you feel threatened by social media, then yes, it is a dangerous thing. Still, even if you don't feel like social media is a dangerous thing, it could be ruining your life.

Social media is everywhere and it is very difficult to get away from it. It is on your computer at work and sometimes a requirement, it is on the phone in your pocket and on the tablet you use to read ebooks. It’s no wonder so many people are addicted to it.

Well, if everybody is doing social media, then it can’t be all that bad. Or so you think. But maybe this isn't the case at all.

You see, many people start noticing a negative effect of being constantly connected to social media over time. But many of them just don’t know what to do about it. Almost like the alcoholic or drug addict who doesn't know where to turn for help.

Experts are in total agreement that web and social media addiction is a thing. And there is plenty of evidence to support this notion. In fact, it wouldn't be a surprise should the term “Facebook Addiction Disorder” show up in a medical journal.

It’s true, studies have shown that people who give up on Facebook, go cold turkey, undergo a kind of withdrawal. But it will probably be for their own good. Ameriden, your source for women’s health supplements, shows you why social media might be ruining your life.

It Triggers Sadness

The more people engage in social media, the less happy they tend to be. One study, in particular, showed that Facebook use was linked to sadness and lower life satisfaction. Experts believe that Facebook conjures up a perception of social isolation. One might expect a social media platform is a great way to interact with others, but in reality, it is linked to social isolation.

If you think about it, it makes perfect sense. We spend a majority of time on these social media sites when we are all by ourselves.

Comparing Lives is Unhealthy

One of the reasons social media makes people feel isolated is due to the comparison factor. It’s difficult not to fall into the trap of comparing our lives to the lives of our friends on social media. As we scroll through the feeds, we can’t help but to make judgments about others and see how well we compare.

Of course, most people only post the highlights of their lives, so our view of how they live is certainly skewed. You feel bad about your life because you sit around and scroll social media while your friends are posting the food they eat at expensive restaurants.

Lack of Attention Span

While communicating on social media, we are constantly switching from one task to another. We read a few posts, check out the comments, then go and watch a short video followed up by returning a message.

These activities share one thing in common; they are very short so we are constantly switching from one to another. This habit creates difficulties in attention concentration, you find it more difficult to remain focused on one thing for an extended period of time.

You start to read a book and get two pages in and stop and wonder why something hasn’t popped up to tell you that you have a new message or somebody liked your post. So you put the book down and check social media.

Loss of Intellectual Abilities

Reading comments, viewing photos and clicking “like” are all activities that don’t take a bit of brainpower. It’s so easy to do that in little time, it becomes a habit. Basically, you don't use your brain when checking social media.

Social media doesn’t provide your brain with enough fuel for development. It could lead to a decline in intellectual abilities.

If you are bored and need something to do, we suggest you go for a walk, take a yoga class or take a bike ride on a mountain trail. You could also read a book or prepare a vegetable soup or some other food that is healthy and tasty. Just don’t let social media ruin your life.
